Description:
This is a list of schools in Division I of the United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) that play football as a varsity sport and are members of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), known as Division I-AA from 1978 through 2005. The teams in this subdivision compete in a 20 team playoff for the NCAA Division I Football Championship. A total of 126 teams will participate in the 2011 NCAA Division I FCS football season.

Notes

  • Fordham began offering athletic scholarships in 2010. The Rams will continue to be an associate member of the Patriot League while being ineligible for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 league title.
  • The additional scholarship requirements for Texas State in preparation for a move to the Western Athletic Conference in 2012 excludes the Bobcats from participation in the playoffs and makes them ineligible for the Southland Conference football title.
  • UTSA will join Texas State in transitioning to the WAC for the 2012 season and will be ineligible for the playoffs and conference football title.
  • UMass will remain in the CAA for the 2011 season but is ineligible for the playoffs and CAA football title. The Minutemen join the Mid-American Conference in 2012.
