Maharashtra Day or Maharashtra Divas is celebrated since May 1st 1960 when the State of Bombay got separated into two states; the State of Gujarat and the State of Maharashtra on the Basis of Languages spoken in majority in two geographically separate areas – Gujarathi and Marathi.
