is a major transit exchange in the southwestern region of city of Vancouver
. Part of the TransLink
system, it is the southern-most exchange in Vancouver.
Structure and location
Marpole Loop is under the northern foot of the Arthur Laing Bridge
which connects Vancouver to Richmond's Vancouver International Airport
. It is on Southwest Marine Drive, just south of Granville Street
, one of Vancouver's major north-south arterial routes. Part of the exchange is located on Marine Drive itself, and part of it is located in an area separated from regular traffic. Because of this arrangement, the loop covers a large area; TransLink maps sometimes designate part of the loop as Hudson & Marine
to avoid confusion.
The loop is located next to the Vancouver Transit Centre, which replaced the Oakridge Transit Centre in September 2006. The transit depot houses the city of Vancouver's public transit fleet. Marpole Loop can accommodate trolley buses, regular length diesel buses and articulated buses
Since the Canada Line
opened in 2009, most of the suburban express routes from Richmond
that once served Marpole Loop now terminates at either Marine Drive Station
to the east, or Bridgeport Station
on the other side of the Fraser River
