Mehran Kardar is a prominent Iranian born physicist, full Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and co-faculty at the New England Complex Systems Institute. He received his B.A. in Cambridge University, and gained his Ph.D at MIT.Mehran Kardar is particularly known for the KPZ equation (Kardar-Parisi-ZhangMehran Kardar, Giorgio Parisi, and Yi-Cheng Zhang, Dynamic Scaling of Growing Interfaces, Physical Review Letters, Vol. 58, 889 - 892 (1986). ) in theoretical physics, which has been named after him and collaborators. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2001.He is the author of two books,
