The or METI, is a ministry of the Government of Japan. It was created by the 2001 Central Government Reform when the Ministry of International Trade and Industry merged with agencies from other ministries related to economic activities, such as the Economic Planning Agency.

METI, which used to be referred to as the "notorious METI" in the Western press, has broad jurisdiction over Japan's industrial/trade policies and energy security from the "Cool Japan Project" to trade agreements (TPP/FTA/EPA).


METI is organized into the following bureaus, offices, departments and four agencies (Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, Small and Medium Enterprise Agency, and the Japan Patent Office)
