Munson Township is one of the sixteen townships of Geauga County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 6,450 people in the township. Ohio State University, 2007. Accessed 15 May 2007.


Located in the north central part of the county, it borders the following townships and city:

Part of the city of Chardon, the county seat of Geauga County, is located in northeastern Munson Township.

Munson Township is home to Alpine Valley, one of the few skiing locations in Ohio.

Name and history

It is the only Munson Township statewide.

Munson Township was formed from the Connecticut Western Reserve. It is township eight, range eight on the map of the Western Reserve.


The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township fiscal officer,, , and of the Ohio Revised Code.
