National Institute of Technology, Agartala was founded as Tripura Engineering College in 1965 and upgraded to NIT in 2006.
History
The College was started with courses in three traditional branches of engineering, namely Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. It was initially affiliated to the University of Calcutta and had the same curriculum structure and examination system as of Bengal Engineering College, the other institute affiliated to the University. After the establishment of Tripura University, the college was affiliated to it. After the enactment of the NIT Act the institute has become an "Institute of National Importance" and will shift to a new campus presently under construction.
Academics
The institute offers 8 undergraduate programs in Engineering of four year duration. Undergraduate programs lead to the B.Tech. degrees. Post graduate M.tech courses are also being offered. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers a 3 year degree in Masters in Computer Applications(MCA) course.
