Description:
The National Service Scheme is a government-sponsored voluntary community service organization in India for young Indians. Its motto is " Not Me, But You ".

The scheme was launched on 24 September 1969 in some universities in India.

Currently over 2.6 million students from all over India studying in different uUniversities (and in some states like Maharashtra at the +2 level also) are members of the scheme. It is funded by the Central and State government and the respective universities. It is a two-year programme. In each year a volunteer has to complete at least 120 hours of work. He or she also has to attend at least one residential camp within these two years.

Youth imbibe leadership qualities by experience from working at community levels. It bridges the urban-rural divide as the youth from cities mingle with the villagers during their residential camp.
