Pakistan Muslim League (J)

The Pakistan Muslim League (J) (Urdu: پاکستان مسلم لیگ ج) was a political party in Pakistan established in 1993. It merged with PML-Q in 2004.

It is one of the factions of the original Pakistan Muslim League, named "J" after Junejo. It was created in 1986 as the sole Pakistan Muslim League when Muhammad Khan Junejo was the Prime Minister of Pakistan under President Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. In September 1988, the party formed an alliance called Islami Jamhoori Ittehad with Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi's National Peoples Party, and Qazi Hussain Ahmed's Jamaat-e-Islami against Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party for the 1988 general elections. During that time Nawaz Sharif became the most prominent politician outside PPP, and eventually became the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 1990.

After Junejo died in 1993, Nawaz Sharif parted with the IJI, and created his own faction called the PML , which became a major political party far more influential than the original PML. Junejo's death also marked the formation of PML (Junejo) in 1993 led by his supporters including Hamid Nasir Chattha and Iqbal Ahmed Khan.

There was a party split within PML (Junejo) when Manzoor Wattoo in 1995 parted ways with his cousin Hamid Nasir Chattha and created his own PML . The party broke because Chattha wanted to be the president of PML (Junejo), much to the annoyance of Wattoo.
