Krishna Vamsi was born in Tadepalligudem in Andhra Pradesh. His father named him "Venkata Bangaaru Raju". His friends used to call/tease him by the name "Bangaaram". So, before joining his Intermediate Course, he changed his name to "Krishna Vamsi". He did his BSc. in Tadepalligudem followed by M.A. in Agricultural Economics from Agra University.
He then entered the film industry. He started as a camera assistant, assistant to the editor and assistant director. He worked under Ram Gopal Varma.
Krishna Vamsi established his own production company Andhra Talkies in 1997.
Sindhooram is by far the best epic movie of his generation, a story attempted by few before but never could portray in the way Vamsi did. It is definitely on par with his mentor Ram Gopal Varma. Krishna vamsi's attempt definitely raised many eyebrows. He gave chance to many good talents like Ravi Teja with this film. Sanghavi has definitely played her part the best.
