The UWA Perth International Arts Festival is a cultural festival held in Western Australia.

History

The festival was created in 1953 by the University of Western Australia, making it the oldest international arts festival in Australia. Festival Background. Accessed 22 March 2006. Artists from around the world have participated in the Festival including the Israeli born clarinetist Chen Halevi.

Funding

Lotterywest has financially supported the festival since 1992. In 2004 it committed to providing up to $16 million dollars over 4 years (2004-2007). Perth International Arts Festival. Accessed 22 March 2006.

2010

Shelagh Magadza is contracted until 2011 as artistic director of the festival. In her 3rd year as director in 2010 the free opening night of the festival saw La Fura Dels Baus in the Supreme Court Gardens.
