Pilates can be as helpful as frequent fitness routine for general back pain
Pilates was discovered to be as effective for easing low back ache as a regular fitness program, a investigation found.

Australian investigators at random designated 44 people to a Pilates routine and 43 people to a normal fitness program for six weeks. All ranged in age from 18 to 70 and had suffered chronic general back irritation for at least three months. On the whole the research participants were somewhat overweight, had a lengthy account of back ache and about a third were taking painkillers for their problem.
Both health sessions were held twice a week for an hour, and lasted six weeks. Both were observed, but the Pilates group were given personal guidance based on their requirements that included exercises on the reformer and trapeze apparatus and highlighted fitness movement precision, breathing control, trunk stability and posture alignment.
The frequent exercise subjects were given generic workouts that included cardiovascular exercise, stretching, strength training and body toning and resistance. Volunteers in both groups were also given workouts to do on their own at home.
They were given questionnaires at six, 12 and 24 weeks that pertained to pain and function and general health-related quality of life.
After six weeks both sers demonstrated considerable improvements in pain and disability compared with the start of the research, although the Pilates set had a slight edge over the broad fitness subjects.
At the start of the pilates workout exercises experts believed the Pilates subjects may see more progression than the broad exercise group. The similar results, they say, could be due to the fact that some people with lower back irritation may react better to Pilates fitness than others, however the sets were very comparable to note differences. Also, since both fitness routines had back workouts they may have been too much alike.
