A Powerplay is a rule introduced in 1991 concerning fielding restrictions in One Day International cricket.
The Powerplay was intended to add to the excitement in ODI cricket. If the batting team has got off to a very quick start, the fielding captain can choose to delay their Fielding Powerplay. However, the batting team can take their Batting Powerplay.
