Rod Keenan, an American milliner, was born in Great Bend, Kansas on July 3, 1968. Professionally he specializes in the creation of a handcrafted men's headwear collection offered under his label- Rod Keenan New York.

Early years and education

Rod grew up in the small town of Great Bend, Kansas. He graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and the Parsons School of Design in Paris, France.


He is a famously reclusive New York milliner, well known in fashion circles for re-establishing men’s headwear as a fashion commodity in the early 1990s. Rod is additionally noted as a pioneer for choosing to locate his design studio in the Manhattan neighborhood of Harlem, New York.

Inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in 2006, Rod has spent the past few years expanding his customer base from celebrities and fashion magazines to a broader base of fashion consumers who understand his sculptural sensibility, sometimes sarcastic wit, and excruciating demand for detail.


Drawing on sources as divergent as the Dadaists, designers such as Elsa Schiaparelli, ancient Egypt, and Kurt Weill, Rod maintains a uniquely New York vernacular while designing in the finest Italian tradition, executed with British millinery precision.
