Root is a municipality in the district of Lucerne in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland.

Geography

Root has an area of . Of this area, 50.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 27.8% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 17% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (4.3%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).

Root has a population () of 3,949, of which 21.7% are foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 14.6%. Most of the population () speaks German (85.6%), with Serbo-Croatian being second most common ( 4.2%) and Albanian being third ( 3.8%).
