Kim Collins was St. Kitts and Nevis' most notable athlete, having won the 100 metres at both the 2003 World Championships and 2002 Commonwealth Games, both firsts for his country. Collins also made the Olympic final in 2000, and repeated this feat in Athens. He led through the first half of the race, but faded back to finish 6th, one place better than in Sydney. The other St. Kitts and Nevis athlete, Tiandra Ponteen also qualified from her opening heat, but could not get past the semifinal stage.
