Samastipur

Samastipur (Hindi: समस्तीपुर) is a city and a municipality in Samastipur district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is headquarters of the Samastipur district.It is situated on the banks of Budhi Gandak and Ganges River.

Important personalities

Samastipur is the birth place of the famous Kisan leader and freedom fighter Pandit Yamuna Karjee. He was a resident of Pusa, Samastipur and was associated with Swami Sahajanand Saraswati in the Kisan Movement during the freedom struggle. There were several other well known leaders from Samastipur district who had occupied ministerial post in the Government of India after the independence. Among them Karpuri Thakur rose to become the Chief Minister of Bihar.
