Biography
Sanjay Chakrabarty was born in
Shyamnagar,
West Bengal to
Ajit Chakrabarty. He was brought educated in
Amar Krishna Pathshala,
Bhatpara in his initial years. In his formative years, he was in close contact with legendary author
Samaresh Basu. He graduated from
University of Calcutta with Honours in
Bengali Literature, after a stint with
physiology.
Career
He started as a
tabla solo performer, but was soon to be seen as
Harmonium accompanist to maestroes such as
Bhimsen Joshi,
Kishori Amankar and
Ullhas Koshalkar. He then switched to composition, lyrics and concurrently, research on
music therapy. After many years of performing as a vocalist, and as a composer and music director, he founded his own NGO, in 2009. He is dedicated to rejuventaing the Indian heritage and way of life with his own recipe of music.
Family
Sanjay is the son of
Ajit Chakrabarty and
Jayanti Chakrabarty, and the younger brother of
Ajoy Chakraborty. Sanjay is married to
Reshmi Chakrabarty,
nee Roychowdhury, since 1998.
