Sanjay Gupta is a Bollywood writer-director known for his dark thrillers

Sanjay Gupta comes from an affluent business family of South Mumbai. He completed his studies at Palm Beach School at Napean Sea Road and Sydenham College at Churchgate in Mumbai. He has frequently worked with Sanjay Dutt. The two started White Feather Films, a production company located in Mumbai, together. Both have publicly admitted they consider each other real brothers and are very close friends.

Much of his work has been criticised as re-interpretations of other films, both Hollywood and other international pieces. Gupta refuted these claims in an interview with in 2002.


Zinda controversy

Zinda (2005) bears a striking resemblance to Oldboy, a 2003 South Korean film directed by Park Chan-wook, but is not an officially sanctioned remake. It was reported in 2005 that Zinda was under investigation for violation of copyright. A spokesman for Show East, the distributor of Oldboy, said, "if we find out there's indeed a strong similarity between the two, it looks like we'll have to talk with our lawyers." His movie Kaante is also a Hindi remake of the film Reservoir Dogs directed by Quentin Tarantino.
