Santosh Sivan

Santhosh Sivan (Malayalam: സന്തോഷ് ശിവന്‍) (born in Trivandrum, Kerala, India) is an Indian cinematographer, film director, and producer who has worked Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi cinema. He has won five National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards, and ten international film festival awards.

He is the brother of directors Sangeeth Sivan and Sanjeev Sivan. Sangeeth is older to him and Sanjeev is younger to him. Their father, Sivan, is a renowned director and cinematographer of Malayalam documentary films, and runs the Trivandrum-based Sivan Studio.

Early life and education

Santhosh Sivan graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, after which he began his career as a cinematographer and went on to become the most sought after inhis field.

Career

Completing 45 features and 41 documentaries, he was awarded the National Award for best Cinematographer for the films Perumthachan (Malayalam/1991), Kalapani (Malayalam / 1996), Mohiniyattam (Malayalam / 1991), Iruvar (Tamil/1998) and Dil Se (Hindi/1999).

As a director he won his first National Award in 1988 for the film The Story of Tiblu.
