Saritha is a
South Indian actress. She has acted in at least 141 feature films, and was cast in the television serial
Selvi in 2005. Her mainstream career spanned from 1979 to 1989, when she took a break to marry Indian actor and producer
Mukesh and raise their two sons.
Career
Balachander didn't cast her in the
Hindi remake of
Maro Charithra, because he needed a
Punjabi actress for the film to work in Bollywood, so he casted
Rati Agnihotri instead. However, he liked Saritha's performance in "Marocharithra" (1979) so much that he cast her in 22 more
South Indian films, including
Agni Satchi,
Kalyana Agathigal and
Achamillai Achamillai. She also played herself in a guest role in his 1981 film
47 Natkal.
She has won several acting awards for her performances in Balachander's films. Considered to be a very sincere actress, she had head
tonsured for the cancer-affected girl role in
Sujatha in 1980 and gained several pounds to play the psychotic role in the 2005 film
Julie Ganapathy. Neither of these films were successful.
Saritha has also worked as a
dubbing artist in Telugu and Tamil. She has lent her voice to various other actresses including
Soundarya,
Ramya Krishnan,
Nagma and
Vijayashanti.
She won a Special Jury Nandi Award for her performance as Aandaalu in
Arjun and for her voice to Soundarya in
Anthahpuram.
