CENTRE FOR DEVELOPMENT STUDIESThe Centre for Development Studies - established under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, is an autonomous organization, created by an act of Parliament. CDS is a global organization working for social development since 1986.The CDS was established out of a long felt need on part of eminent scholars, bureaucrats, senior politicians, research personnel & journalists to set up a non-partisan and non-political organization for activities related to Social Development with special emphasis on rural development, women & child development, family planning, health & family welfare, tribal welfare, minority affairs, social justice & empowerment and other fields of social relevance.The CDS was established in a small rented room in New Delhi in 1986, with some eminent personalities from different fields, including renowned personalities such as Late (Dr) Govind Narain Singh - Ex-Chief Minister of M.P, Ex-Governor of Bihar, Senior Politician and close associate of the then Prime Minister Late Smt Indira Gandhi, Late Prof. U.C. Dixit, Ex-Professor, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Founding Member APNAN, Bangkok, Thailand, IFOAM, Germany, EMRO, Okinawa, Japan, UNICEF, USAID, UNDP, NFRDF, USA and Member to several Government of India Committees and Departments. Other eminent personalities associated with the formation of the CDS included Mr. Pritish Nandy, Mr S. Gopalakrishnan, Mr. K.G Pandey, Mr. Khushwant Singh and many more such prominent names.The CDS also has its overseas presence in Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal and Myanmar.The CDS is now headed by Prof. Ramesh S Chauhan - Chairman.The CDS is actively involved in Policy based Research & Development projects for different Ministries and Departments of the Government of India, International Organizations such as UNICEF, APNAN, IFOAM, EMRO, INFRC, SKK, USAID, UNDP, and several others to name. CDS also works in close coordination and partnership with respective State Governments and Departments of the State Departments.CDS is empanelled with several Government of India Departments, Ministries, Autonomous Organizations, Navratna Companies for conducting policy based research, planning, monitoring & evaluation, and CSR activiites.CDS also provides Technical Training to individuals, government personnel, students and personnel of various organizations. CDS is also associated with several Universities and Educational Institutions. CDS has technical collaboration with E.M. Research Organization (EMRO) Okinawa, Japan, International Nature Farming Research Centre (INFRC), Atami, Japan, Asia Pacific Natural Agriculture Network (APNAN), Bangkok, Thailand, Sekai Kyusei Kyo (SKK) Atami, Japan, and Nature Farming Research & Development Foundation, Arizona, USA.
