Shoprite Group Plc. is a
supermarket chain currently trading in the
Isle of Man. Its major competitors are
Tesco and the
Manx Co-op.
Shoprite currently owns 12 stores in all the major settlements on the Island. Three in
Douglas, two in
Peel, two in
Ramsey, three in
Port Erin one in
Onchan and one in
Castletown. Two of the Port Erin stores are branded differently, Guiltless Gourmet and Shoprite Living (stocking
Wilkinson products). One of the Douglas stores trades as Winerite.
Shoprite is the only store on the Isle of Man to be contracted with
Iceland,
Subway and
Wilkinson (Shoprite Living).
The chain is not related to similarly named chains in the
US or
South Africa.
Until the 1990s there were "Shoprite" supermarkets in the
United Kingdom which were taken over by and rebranded as
Kwik Save, itself now a defunct chain having been taken over by
Somerfield. Somerfield, in turn has now been taken over by
The Co-operative Group, and all of its stores will be converted to
The Co-operative Food branding within the next couple of years.
