Shrek the Musical
is a musical
with music by Jeanine Tesori
and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire
. It is based on the 2001 DreamWorks
and William Steig
's 1990 book Shrek!
. After a tryout in Seattle, the original Broadway production opened in December 2008, and closed after 12 months in January 2010. The US Tour opened in 2010, as did the first international production in Israel. A re-vamped West End production opened in 2011. A Spanish production and Non-Equity tour are scheduled for fall 2011; with an Australian debut set for 2012.

Seattle Tryout (2008)
The musical premiered in an out-of-town tryout at the 5th Avenue Theatre
