politician and one of the most prominent communist
leaders in the country. He is a senior member of the politburo
of the Communist Party of India
and the party's Parliamentary group leader.
Yechury was born to Sarveshwara Somayajulu Yechury and Kalpakkam in Hyderabad
in a family hailing from Kakinada
. After school education at All Saints High School
. He moved to Delhi
due to disruption of academic life as a result of the Telengana
movement in 1969.
In 1970, he completed Higher Secondary (ten year course) standing first in the All India merit list. In 1973, he completed B.A. (Hons) in Economics, first class, from St. Stephen's College
, a constituent college of the University of Delhi
. He went on to complete his M.A (Economics) from JNU
He is one of the seniormost leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), a member of the party's highest decision making body - Politburo since 1992, leader of the CPI(M) parliamentary party, head of the CPI(M)'s international department and editor of the party's weekly - People's Democracy.
Yechury joined the Students Federation of India (SFI) in 1974. A year later, he joined the Communist Party of India
. In 1975, he completed his M.A., first class, in Economics, from Jawaharlal Nehru University
