St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School

, is a Roman Catholic Private School in Grants, NM, giving education to grades pre-kindergarten to 8th grade. It is the only accredited private school (as of 5-08) in Cibola County.
St Teresa of Avila Catholic School was built in 1949 with the community school center 100 students. The school boomed in the 1970s when mining for uranium occurred in the county. The school had its peak with # of student with 185 in the 2002-2003 school year.
At the urging of the Diocese of Gallup, the school became an accredited private school in 1998, under the direction of first year principal Jerry Garcia. In February 2009, St. Teresa School underwent an accreditation review visit. No word on the results.
St Teresa Times
The St. Teresa Times (as of May 2008) is the current school newspaper run by former 8th grade teacher of the school Justine Triplehorn. Nine school newspapers were published in the first year of its existence in the 06-07 school year and nine again in the 07-08 school year. No word to how many were published in the 08-09 school year, with rumors that the class folded.
The school has two sports. The basketball season runs from November to February. Track is from March to May. The basketball season concludes with the annual St. Teresa Warriors tournament.
