Stefan Reuter (born 16 October 1966 in Dinkelsb├╝hl) is a German football coach and former player.


A right sided defender who started his career with TSV 1860 Dinkelsb├╝hl. 1982 he played for 1. FC Nuremberg, first in the 2. Bundesliga and since 1985 in the German Bundesliga. In exactly 100 games he scored 10 goals. He was occasionally used as a right sided midfielder.

1988 he was transferred to Bayern Munich. For this team he played 95 games in the Bundesliga and scored four goals. In 1989 and 1990 he won the German Championship with Bayern Munich.

A proposed move to Liverpool F.C following West Germany's victorious World Cup campaign was turned down at the last minute with Reuter following many of his compatriots to Italy. From 1990 to 1991 he played for Juventus F.C. (28 games), but turned back soon to Germany and played for Borussia Dortmund. Until the ending of his career he played 307 games for Dortmund and scored 11 goals in the Bundesliga.

He also played for the German National Team. All in all it were 69 games (2 goals) for Nuremberg (9), Bayern Munich (18), Juventus Turin (18) and Borussia Dortmund (33).


Reuter was part of the 1990 World Championship team, as well as on winning teams that competed in the Euro 1996, and the Champions League in 1997. He played on five teams that won the German Championship, and in 1984, a team that won the U-16 European Championship.
