Supriya Sule is an
Indian politician from the
Nationalist Congress Party and currently a
Member of Parliament (MP) in the
15th Lok Sabha (India's house of elected representatives). She is the daughter of the President of the Nationalist Congress Party,
Sharad Pawar. In 2009, she contested the elections for the
Baramati Lok Sabha constituency and won. This constituency was previously represented by her father. She was a
Member of Parliament, representing
Maharashtra in the
Rajya Sabha.
Born to Sharad and Pratibha Sharadchandra Pawar on 30 June 1969 at Pune, she was educated at
Jai Hind College in
Mumbai, earning a
B.Sc. degree. She married Sadanand Bhalchandra Sule on 4 March 1992. She has One son and one daughter.
She was elected to the
Rajya Sabha in the September 2006 intake from Maharashtra . and is a trustee of the
Nehru Centre in Bombay.
Supriya's husband was an IT consultant to multinationals, and after they married they moved to California where she studied water pollution at UC Berkley. After subsequent postings in Indonesia and Singapore, She came home to Mumbai.
In March 2009, prior to the
Indian general elections, Supriya Sule declared assets worth Rs 52.73
crore: Rs 15.79
crore in her own name, Rs 35.78
crore in name of her husband Sadanand, and Rs. 1.16
crore in name of her two children.
