Swami Sarvanand Giri Institute (also known as
SSGPURC, Hoshiarpur) is a regional centre affiliated to
Panjab University,
Chandigarh,
Punjab.
Panjab University is one of the oldest universities in India, having a history of providing training and research work in areas such as
arts,
science,
technology and
medicine. The university expanded its activities in technical education in 2002 by establishing a campus technical institution,
U.I.E.T. To expand its technical education, Panjab University started a regional centre at
Hoshiarpur. The present campus was taken over by Panjab University in 2006 and started BE courses in 2006.
History
Dr Lajat Rai Munger, a citizen of the
USA, came from the village of Nagal Sadhian
Hoshiarpur. Dr. Munger adopted Swami Sarvanand Gir Maharaj as his guru. He bought 20 acres of property in the name of his guruji in Bajwara village on
Una Road, 5 km from the court of Hoshiarpur and constructed a campus. Later, he handed it over to Panjab University. In February 2006, the campus was taken over by Panjab University, as regional centre.
