Syria competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.

Men's Triple Jump:
  • Mohammad Hazzory
    • Qualification: 16.37 m (13th in Group B, did not advance, 25th overall)

Women's 5000 metres:
  • Zainab Bakkour
    • Round 1: 17:18.66 (18th in heat 1, did not advance, 39th overall)


Syria sent one boxer, Naser Al Shami to Athens. Al Shami had only won bronze at the 2002 Asian Games, and was not expected to threaten for a medal. He defeated All-Africa Games winner Emmanuel Izonritei by points and Sydney middleweight bronze medalist Vugar Alakbarov by virtue of a disqualification. In the semifinal, though, two time world champion Odlanier Solis Fonte of Cuba proved too much for him, but even with the loss, Al Shami earned a bronze medal, Syria's only medal of the Games.
