The Amazing Race 4 is the fourth installment of the
reality television show on US television

The Amazing Race 4 featured 12 teams of two, with a pre-existing relationship, in a race around the world. It premiered on May 29, 2003 and ended on August 21, 2003.
Married couple
Reichen Lehmkuhl and
Chip Arndt were the winners of the race, and were the first gay couple to win the competition.
Production
Development and filming
The fourth season of
The Amazing Race had spanned in 4 continents. The new countries visited for the race were the
Netherlands and
South Korea including old countries visited in past seasons. Filming began on January 18, 2003 and finished on February 14, 2003. There were major changes in this season, the Roadblock appeared first before Detour in different legs. Also, the Check-in mat was updated with the World Map (in the previous two seasons, the check-in mat was solid black)
At the time the show was filmed and broadcast,
same-sex marriage was not legally recognized anywhere in the United States. Reichen and Chip were never legally married although they were
married in a religious ceremony;
CBS decided to honor their description of themselves as "married" for the purposes of the show.
Kelly & Jon are the first team to make it to the final leg without using a Fast Forward.
