The Australian Open 2013 Live Stream
The Australian Open is one of the four grand slam tournaments of tennis. It is the first grand slam of the year and in 2013 will take place between the 14th and 27th of January at Melbourne Park in Melbourne.
The prize money for the 2013 tournament is substantially up on previous years and the players will compete for a share of 30 million Australian Dollars. This is the highest amount of prize money ever offered at a tennis tournament and is the result of ATP members lobbying for the increase in prize money for players losing early on in the tournament.
The defending men's singles champion is Novak Djokovic and the defending ladies champion is Victoria Azarenka. In 2013 in both the mens and ladies main draw, 128 players will compete to become the new Australian Open champion.
Andre Agassi has won four singles titles at the tournament and will present the trophy to the mens singles winner at the 2013 event. Other events at the Australian Open will include mens and ladies doubles as well as mixed doubles. There is also a junior tournament featuring boys and girls events and a wheelchair event.
Visitor Attendences have risen year on year at the Australian Open. The 2012 event received 686,000 visitors over the course of the tournament. This is a steady increase from the 521,691 visitors recorded in 2004. For visitors, the Australian Open offers free shuttle trams from the Central Business District to the Rod Laver arena. A late night bus service is also available that runs throughout the early hours to the Melbourne City square. Melbourne Park is also well located for travel by train with Jolimont, Flinders Street and Richmond all a short walk to the venue. Adult ticket prices will start at 69.90 Australian Dollars for a day pass on the opening day and will steadily increase during the course of the tournament.
