The Daily Progress is the sole daily paper in the vicinity of Charlottesville, Virginia. Published continuously for over 100 years, it is now owned by Richmond-based Media General. While much of its writing staff consist of an ever-changing flock of youthful reporters, it contains a few veteran journalists, including feature-penning Vietnam veteran David Maurer and award-winning Bryan McKenzie. The Daily Progress was long owned by the local Worrell family, under the aegis of Worrell Enterprises, but the paper was sold to Media General as a part of a larger $230M deal in 1995.
