THE TITANIC - THE TITANIC DEPARTURE painting is a great illustration of James Lumbers moments in time style of artwork. Well known for his nostalgic paintings, Lumbers is also an accomplished portrait and wildlife artist. After graduating from The Ontario College of Art, Lumbers labored for several years in Toronto. In1969 a chance came to travel to the distant north to paint polar bears in their natural habitat around Hudson Bay. Over a 10-year time, subject matter proliferated to documenting Native Peoples of the north.
In 1973 Lumbers was elected a fellow of the Explorers Club in New York. He also is a member of the Society of Animal Artists of New York. He is recognized in Who's Who in American Art and a Dictionary of International Biographies in the UK.
By the late 70's Lumbers was acknowledged as one of Canada's primary realists Painters, collaborating in various exhibitions in Canada and the United States. Using his distinctive style, Lumbers has captured a few of the worlds famous Sports Heroes, Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretsky and Joe Montana. He also painted John Diefenbaker, Chief Dan George, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sir Andrew Davis with The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and many others from countless walks of life.

It all began on an island in Georgian Bay. Having sketched the veranda of an abandoned home, he located a diary with aged images underneath a floorboard. The diary provided details of the images taken in 1913 from the same location as the sketch was done. Afterward turned into a painting, it seemed valid to add the people as ghostly figures of the past with the birdbath of the current day. This painting evolved into a career that has spanned over 35 years creating "Moments in Time". Lumbers formidable awareness of Canadian History is reflected in much of his paintings.
