What can You want?
Book'in along the hi-way together with the wind with your hair (er... helmet) nsa and fully engaged in the adventure? Or attacking the rear country throwing mud and gravel, going locations where most riders never see? Well... I kind'a like both if you know what i'm saying. The thing is we are referring to two different rides... or are we?
I Would Like To Expose you to
The path Legal Dirt Bike or what's known commercially since the Dual Sport Bike. Yes good all possible worlds in a awesome machine. What could be better? A lighter but powerful ride, completely street legal nevertheless able to take you where no hog went...lol.
I have nothing against bikes which can be designed strictly for hi-way use or the other side with the coin, off-road use but owning tweaking two separate machines can be somewhat of annoying. Even the riding styles and methods are totally different. For a person like me who has trouble periodontal and walking it really seemed an improved idea to own one bike which was balanced between and could do both.
Is that this Something totally new?
Dual sports have been about a while but haven't ever really aroused the interest of the riding public up till now. I not really know why they were overlooked previously, some very nice machines were available but whatever the reasons then, things have changed and Dual Sports are increasingly being noticed now. Several different manufactures are designing and building dual sports with this expanding market. And also the bikes available have been improved so much they are rivaling the pure dirt machines for power, agility and efficiency. Something hard to do while keeping "street legal" status!
You will need to Decide
What riding style can you favor, street or dirt? And have the dual sport bike that complements your riding style. As an example bikes which can be larger, above 400 cc, and heavier, 325 lbs plus be more effective adapted to road conditions. Good solid rides which are not so easily overtaken or pushed off course by our 4 wheeled competitors. But nevertheless "dirty" enough to consider you on the casual off-road trail.
Or you favor trail riding I would suggest keeping a motorcycle which is 200 - 400 cc and less than 325 lbs to keep an increased agility and nimbleness needed for continued used in the off-road environment. These are still able to handle most on-road conditions together with the possible exception of Freeway riding. In case you are wanting to lessen fuel cost forms of great for commutes with some getting all the way to 75 mpg (if you maintain hand off the throttle!).
Tailoring Your Choice
Whichever riding environment spent the majority of your time and effort, the twin sport you choose will still need to be tailored in your personal needs. For instance, Someone weighing 200 lbs or higher would demand a larger bike than somebody who weighed well below 200 lbs. If you are underneath the 175 mark a 200 - 300 cc machine would do good by you. Where by if you are above 175 you may want to consider something above 300 cc, maybe up to 400 for the "dirty" bike and up to 600 for a machine that is "roady" As being a side note, some dual sport machines reach the 900 to 1100 cc mark... A lot of money!
