It provides consular services and deals with diplomatic affairs in Ho Chi Minh City and the rest of southern Vietnam. Like many foreign diplomatic buildings in the world, the consulate general has tight security.
The consulate general building stands adjacent to the site of the former U.S. embassy, which was demolished in 1998.
