University Mall or, informally, the
U-mall, is an enclosed
shopping mall located in
South Burlington, Vermont. It is the largest mall in the state of Vermont. The mall is anchored by
J.C. Penney,
Bon-Ton,
Sears, and
Kohl's, and contains nearly 75 stores, two sit-down restaurants, and a
food court, with a total area of about . Finard Properties, LLC of
Burlington, Massachusetts is the mall's management company.
History
In September 2010, it had 100% occupancy. 90% is more typical.
Original anchor stores at the mall included
Zayre, which became
Ames in 1989; it then closed in 2002 and became Kohl's. Another previous anchor was
Steinbach which is now
the Bon-Ton.
Operations
The rental per square foot is proprietary information. Average pro-rata tax payment for a non-anchor store is about $2 per .
Tenants
The University Mall has an array of stores and areas to eat. Various national retailers have their only Burlington-area store within the mall, including the four current anchor stores. In 2009, Vermont's first
IHOP opened here, , becoming the mall's second sit-down restaurant. There is a food court.
