The Faculty of Arts
is one of the two oldest Faculties of the oldest University
in the province of Alberta

The Faculty is situated in several buildings across the University campus and currently has an enrolment of approximately 6200 full-time equivalent undergraduates and 700 graduate students. Students in most other Faculties also enroll in Arts courses. The Dean of the Faculty is historian Lesley Cormack. Dr. Cormack was previously Dean of Arts and Social Sciences at Simon Fraser University
in Vancouver from 2007-2010, and before that spent 17 years at the University of Alberta.
Over $6,000,000 was granted to Arts faculty members in the 2008-2009 fiscal year to conduct research.
The Faculty publishes alumni magazine twice a year. It is distributed to 35,000 Faculty of Arts alumni, donors, faculty, staff, students and other interested readers.
Since 1989, twenty-three Arts faculty members have been elected to the fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada
, and five have received the 3M teaching award. Since 1982, twenty-three Arts faculty members have won Rutherford Awards.
