The University of Houston System at Sugar Land
) is a multi-institution teaching center of the University of Houston System
located in Sugar Land, Texas
. Three UH System institutions—University of Houston
, , and —offer junior, senior, and graduate level classes at UHSSL.
The UH System at Sugar Land allows students to take upper-division and graduate-level college courses from three of the four constituent institutions in the University of Houston System. At the center, students can earn bachelor or master degrees in 32 academic areas.
The multi-institution teaching center was founded in 1995 as a higher education
"teaching center" of the University of Houston System. It was originally named the Fort Bend Institute and later the University of Houston System at Fort Bend prior to its current name.
In 2002, the institution moved to its current 250-acre campus on University Boulevard at U.S. Highway 59 with the opening of the Albert and Mamie George Building.
On April 23, 2009, a $37 million USD facility was opened on the campus dubbed "Brazos Hall" housing the Sugar Land campus of Wharton County Junior College
