Origin
The name Vanniyar is derived from the Tamil word Vanior Vanni (Vahni or Agni in Sanskrit) which means fire. It also means Valour or Strength.
At Sirkazhi Vaideeswaran Temple, Inscriptions about Vanniyar Puranam are observed.
