Venus Dee Milo is a
fictional character from the
Marvel Comics universe, that was member of the mutant superhero group
X-Statix. She appeared in the first issue of that series and was created by
Mike Allred and
Peter Milligan.
Venus Dee Milo's name is a pun on the
ancient Greek statue known as the
Venus De Milo. The statue is recognizable because it has been damaged and is missing both arms; Venus Dee Milo's costume is designed to reveal that she has no visible arms.
Fictional character biography
Her mutant powers manifested during a spat with her family when she was a little girl; the explosion completely destroyed her grandmother's home, and Venus grew up believing that she had killed her entire family. Venus struggled with
manic-depression and made numerous suicide attempts, but finally attempted to join X-Force so that she could redeem herself.
Following the death of
X-Force members and a change of the superteam's name to
X-Statix, Venus Dee Milo was considered as a possible replacement for the recently deceased
U-Go Girl.
The Orphan initially rejected her as he was still in a state of mourning for U-Go Girl, thought that he himself was insane and also thought she was too pure to be a part of X-Statix; he changes his mind, however, when Venus took him to the site of her family's death and explained her past to him.
