actress, the daughter of actor/comedian Charlie Chaplin
and Oona O'Neill Chaplin
, and the granddaughter of playwright Eugene O'Neill
She was born in Santa Monica, California
in 1951, the fourth of 8 children
, her eldest sister being the actress Geraldine Chaplin
. Her father left America in 1952 and the family moved to Switzerland
. She was also half-sister to Sydney Chaplin
, Charles Chaplin, Jr.
and Norman Chaplin.
She appeared in her father's film, A Countess from Hong Kong
, and he wanted her to star as an angel in his next film called The Freak
. However she met the French actor Jean-Baptiste Thiérrée
and they eloped to get married. The film did not get made. She and her husband created Le cirque bonjour
, then Le cirque imaginaire
, later Le cirque invisible
, travelling contemporary circuses
which some credit as a source of inspiration for Cirque du Soleil
. Their children, Aurélia Thiérrée, (born 24 September 1971), and James Thiérrée
, (born 2 May 1974), both performed as children with their parents and went on to have acting careers as adults.
