Education
Vineet Nayar was born in 1962. Nayar received his bachelor's degree in engineering from
Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology Pantnagar in 1983. Nayar received his business management degree from
XLRI,
Jamshedpur in 1985 and joined
HCL as a
Senior Management Trainee from campus.
Career
Nayar started his journey with HCL in 1985 after completing his engineering and management degree. After spending seven years in engineering, product management, sales, and marketing positions at HCL, he founded HCL Comnet in 1994, to provide IT infrastructure and many networking services.
Nayar was appointed president of
HCL Technologies in April 2005 by HCL chairman and founder
Shiv Nadar. Nayar went on to reshape the organization with his 'Employee First, Customer Second' philosophy, which placed the needs of the employee before those of the customer. The strategy was created to drive an inverted organization structure, create transparency and accountability within the organization and encourage a value-driven culture.
Nayar was later appointed as CEO of the company in October 2007. On October 20, 2010, Nayar was named Vice Chairman of HCL Technologies.
