Description:
Warrap, sometimes spelled Warab, is one of the 10 states of South Sudan, located in the Bahr el Ghazal region. It has an area of 31,027 km². Kuajok is the capital of Warrap state, replacing Warrap. All states in Southern Sudan are divided in counties, each headed by a County Commissioner appointed by the President of the Government of Southern Sudan.

  • Tonj North County - Yol Mayar Mareng
  • Tonj East County - Ireneo Yai Mum

The state is home to Twic,Jur Chol,Bongo and Rek subtribes of Nilotic groups. Twic and Rek belong to Dinka tribes. The main cities are Gogrial, Kuajok, Tonj, Thiet, Turalei, Akuon, and Panliet.

Upon his death in 2010, NBA basketball star Manute Bol was buried in the Warrap state in his hometown of Turalei.

Warrap seceded from Sudan as part of the Republic of South Sudan on 9 July 2011.

Government

Nyandeng Malek Deliech is the Governor of the Warrap state.
