The film utilizes the archetypal characters in the Hero's Journey, just like the initial The exorcist did, and from the first moments the thing is farm boy Jack and princess Isabelle, you realize their motivations and you're already deeply in love with them. Nicholas Hoult and Eleanor Tomlinson have excellent chemistry as Jack and Isabelle, however the performance I loved the most was Ewan McGregor doing his best Errol Flynn impression as swashbuckler, Elmont the knight. Rounding out the cast is Stanley Tucci as bad guy Roderick, and he's the kind of mustache twirling bad guy you remember all those great adventure flicks of the youth. I found Jack the Giant Slayer to become very entertaining. It were built with a love story, a hero, war, and adventure. The graphics are pretty amazing as well; those giants were so real. Anyone who absolutely did not like this movie is looking for way too much inside a movie such as this. I'm one who goes to the movies wanting to get away from actual life inside a fun visual experience. This movie does that. This is also a memorable throw to childhood stories just like Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters movie is.
