Webster's (
Samuel Webster & Sons Limited), was a
brewery founded in 1838 by Samuel Webster and operated at the Fountain Head Brewery in
Halifax, West Yorkshire, UK until 1996. Webster's main brands are
Green Label, a
light mild, and
Yorkshire Bitter, which replaced
Pennine Bitter from 1982 onwards. As of 2011,
Heineken International are the brand owners.
The company's
tied estate concentrated on its Halifax heartland, but was spread throughout
West Yorkshire, however the brewery supplied the entire country with its beers. Perhaps their most famous advertising slogan was 'Drives out the Northern thirst'.
After the brewery's closure, Webster's branded beers were initially brewed at the John Smith's Brewery in
Tadcaster, but were subsequently moved to the Thomas Hardy Brewery at
Burtonwood in 2004.

beer. By 1880 the company had purchased its 100th
tied house. In March 1890 Samuel Webster & Son Ltd became a
registered company, with £175,000 of capital.COMMERCIAL & MARKETS . ...
