Wen Yang (chess player)

Wen Yang (; born July 7, 1988 in Shandong) is a Chinese chess Grandmaster. In 2008, he became China's 25th Grandmaster at the age of 19.

World Cup

He qualified for and competed in the Chess World Cup 2007 where he reached Round One, where he was defeated 0.5-1.5 by Zoltan Almasi. In this tournament he achieved a performance rating of 2498.

International Master

In 2007 he gained the International Master (IM) title. He achieved his IM norms at:

• U18 World Youth Chess Championship in Belfort, France (July 19–28, 2005); score 6.5/10
• World Junior Chess Championship in Istanbul, Turkey (Nov 9-22 2005); score 7.0/13
• Aeroflot Open 2006 A2 Group in Moscow, Russia (February 8–16, 2006); score 5.0/9

Grandmaster

In 2008 he gained the Grandmaster title. His GM norms were achieved at: Total number of games: 32 (minimum 27).

• 2006 World Junior Chess Championship in Yerevan, Armenia 3–16 October; score 8.0/12
• 2007 Asian Chess Championship in Cebu, Philippines 19–29 September; score 7.5/11. The norm achieved with Rp of 2640 is considered a 20-game GM norm.

China Chess League

Wen Yang plays for Shandong chess club in the China Chess League (CCL).
