Description:
Yang Ye (Chinese: 楊業; Pinyin: Yáng Yè), or Yang Jiye (Chinese: 楊繼業; Pinyin: Yáng Jìyè) (died 986) was a general and strategist in the Later Han Dynasty and Northern Song Dynasty military. He is a key character in the Generals of the Yang Clan (楊家將). The History of the Song Dynasty mentions that Yang Ye was conscripted by the Emperor Taizong of Song to defend the northern borders against Khitans (Liao Dynasty).

In 986, as vice-commander under Pan Mei, Yang Ye fought against the Liao Dynasty. Yang Ye was captured by the Khitans and starved to death. In Gubeikou, 120 km northeast of Beijing, there is a temple on its slope dedicated to Yang Ye.

His military exploits inspired a series of novels and plays of fictional accounts of Yang Ye and his heirs.
