BBC South East is the BBC English Region serving East Sussex, Kent, and parts of Surrey and West Sussex.

The BBC region was created in September 2001 by the joining of the Heathfield transmitter (formerly part of the BBC South region), with the Bluebell Hill and Dover transmitters from the former BBC London and South East region. Unlike ITV Meridian, it does not provide a local news service for South Essex (received from a Bluebell Hill overlap), this area being part of the BBC London region instead.



BBC South East's television output consists of the flagship regional news service South East Today at 6.30pm on weekdays and the topical magazine programme Inside Out. A 20-minute opt-out during the weekly Politics Show on Sunday lunchtimes is produced by an independent production company from an office in Brighton. A late night football magazine show Late Kick Off is co-produced with BBC London.


The region is the controlling centre for BBC Radio Kent, BBC Surrey and BBC Sussex.

Radio Kent carries local programming between 5am and 4pm, then simulcasts the Drive-time show with BBC Sussex & BBC Surrey from the Tunbridge Wells studio until 7pm then simulcasts networked programming along with stations in the BBC South region between 7pm and 1am every night.

BBC Sussex and BBC Surrey each carry six hours a day of local programming for each county, sharing the remainder of their output between 5am and 4pm joining Radio Kent for drivetime, then joining...
